Strengthening Taiwan–Malaysia Educational Ties: University of Taipei Welcomes Visit from Malaysia After-School Education Association

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the University of Taipei had the honor of welcoming Mr. Loke Shao-Yung, General Manager of the Malaysia After-School Education Association, for an official visit. The meeting focused on deepening mutual exchanges and exploring potential collaborations, with in-depth discussions on educational trends in Malaysia and the University’s international recruitment strategies.
Currently, Malaysian students represent the largest group among the University’s international degree-seeking students, accounting for 60% of the total. This reflects Malaysia’s strong recognition of Taiwan’s higher education. However, due to declining birth rates and rapidly changing global dynamics, the University recognizes the need to proactively reach out to junior high and high school students as part of its future recruitment strategy.
The Malaysia After-School Education Association, led by Mr. Loke, was established in 2020 and now comprises over 700 tuition centers across the country, covering educational levels from kindergarten to high school (including independent Chinese secondary schools). With its extensive reach, the association hopes to work closely with the University of Taipei to organize student experience camps, allowing Malaysian students to become familiar with Taiwan’s education system at an early stage and cultivate interest in studying in Taiwan.
During the meeting, the University highlighted its five core strengths in international recruitment: prime and safe location, affordable tuition, priority housing for overseas Chinese students, and strong academic programs. The University boasts Olympic-standard sports facilities, generous scholarships, and centrally located student housing—factors that make it highly attractive to Malaysian students.
The University also introduced its vision of becoming a “University for All Ages,” expanding from early childhood education to lifelong learning for older adults. With over 200 international sister universities, the University offers students diverse exchange opportunities to broaden their global perspective. Additionally, a new international talent retention initiative was presented, featuring tuition-free master’s programs, living stipends, and internship placements with partner companies in Taiwan—providing comprehensive academic and career support for Malaysian students, which was highly praised by Mr. Loke.
Looking ahead, the University of Taipei will continue to strengthen its partnerships with Malaysian educational institutions, leverage its alumni network to expand recruitment efforts, and enhance its global visibility. The University is committed to becoming a model for Taiwan’s higher education engagement on the international stage.
