Exchange Period and Leaving
Period of Exchange and Leaving Procedures
Exchange Period
According to university regulations, the maximum duration for exchange students is one academic year (two semesters). If you wish to extend or shorten your exchange period, please submit an application to the Office of International Affairs (OIA) coordinator by the end of October (for the Fall semester) or the end of April (for the Spring semester).
Extension of Exchange
Students originally scheduled for one semester may apply to extend their stay to one academic year, subject to approval from both UT and their home university. Students originally scheduled for one academic year are not eligible to apply for an extension. Please follow the steps below to apply:
- Download the Student Report Form and fill in your home university, the original exchange semester, the extended semester, and specific reasons for the request.
- Complete the internal approval process (signatures) and simultaneously send the official consent letter/email from your home university to inbound@go.utaipei.edu.tw
- Once the Student Report Form is signed and consent from the home university is received, the OIA will submit the case for university administrative review.
- Upon university approval, a new Letter of Acceptance for the next semester will be provided at the end of the term to finalize the extension.
- Please refer to the Visa & Insurance section for residency-related applications.
Shortening of Exchange
If you need to shorten your exchange due to personal reasons, students originally scheduled for one academic year may reduce their stay to one semester. For students originally scheduled for only one semester, applying to shorten the period will be considered as withdrawing from the program. Please follow the steps below:
- Download the Student Report Form and fill in your home university, the original exchange semester, the shortened period, and specific reasons.
- Complete the internal approval process and send the official consent letter from your home university to inbound@go.utaipei.edu.tw
- Once the Student Report Form is signed and consent from the home university is confirmed, the exchange period will be shortened accordingly.
Leaving Procedures
- At the end of each semester, following the notification from the OIA, please visit the office to collect or download and print the Leaving Procedure Form.
- Complete the sign-off process at each designated department and pay any outstanding fees as required by the form.
- After completion, return the Leaving Procedure Form to the OIA.
- Transcripts will be sent via email within approximately one month after the semester ends. If you require a hard copy, please notify the OIA in advance.
- Transcripts will not be issued if the leaving procedures are not completed.
- Do not overstay your visa in Taiwan, as this will result in fines and may negatively impact the university’s future international programs.
